I am a long time user of ESS, but never happened to see it crashing till version 6.0.316.

How it's crashing: I run the firewall in interactive mode. When I got the red window message (recommended Deny) for an incoming connection, I observed that after '... connecting to port X' information there is some garbled text. Then if I don't choose Deny quick enough (2-3 seconds) ESS crashes. Here is what I have in Event viewer:

Faulting application egui.exe, version 6.0.316.0, faulting module msvcr80.dll, version 8.0.50727.6195, fault address 0x0000e7a2.

    I run XP Pro SP3.

    Here is Help/About:

I have noticed this also, there does seem to by some kind of issue between hips and the eset firewall, and the EGUI.exe process, it's like hips is causing this or the firewall is and the pre release file set makes no difference , I downloaded the free port foward tool from here -http://portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm- The latest version won't install, which i don't think is related to eset, but it's possible it is, So i downloaded and older version that is known to work ok, version 1.00.0039 This does install, a few prompts by eset hips regarding the ask toolbar that is bundled with it, but there is an option not to install this junkware ,during instal its near the end when it asks for firewall permitions that the eset Gui crashes and fails to restart automatically this can be reproduced with other apps to during installation of them

    Exactly.
I disabled HIPS and so far so good. But what ESET company will do about that? It's an old bug.

I had to uninstall ESS, egui.exe started to use all CPU. After so many years of trusting ESET, version 6.0.316 is a total failure for me, beta like and buggy. Now I have installed Kaspersky trial hoping ESET will release meanwhile a new version without bugs.

In fact I see ESS version 6.0.316 is not even announced in this section.

Maybe because v6.0.316.0 only has a very minor change compared to the previous version.
