I own a Hama 35-in-1 USB 2.0 Card reaader, which has been working properly, until I installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits and ESS 5 (My previous system was WinXP with ESS 4).

The problem is that when I connect the card reader to a USB port (either on-board USB 2 or 3, or added board USB 2.0), it will hardly recognize the drives in the reader. Windows typically comes up with one drive, and in Explorer the location bar will display a progress bar, which takes quite a while to fill. When it's done after a minute or so, Windows report the attached USB device has malfunctioned and could not install the driver. Also, ESS 5 brings up a pop-up screen acking what to do with the newly detected drive (that by this time has already disappeared from Windows Explorer).

So I tried the card reader on my girl friend's laptop (Win Vista with ESS 4), no problems!

I conneted the reader to my Win7 PC again, let the attachment procedure fail, but when the ESS pop-up shows up, I click "setup" and disable scanning of removable devices. I reconnect the card reader, it is instantly detected (all 4 drives) and when I insert a memory card, contents are immediately displayed.

So, is this a bug in ESS 5? I'm up to date with everything:

USB w/ ESS 5 has been an ongoing issue and (I think) a supposed 5.0.95.0 FIX (system freezes) turned out Not to be one - at least for everyone.

In October (moderator) Aryeh recommended installing 4.2.71.2 Until this is resolved. I saw a Dec 19 post where someone Still has the lock-ups with 5.0.95.0, so hopefully Aryeh, Marcos, or a Forum member can update this or correct what I've said.

    Hello,

Is this the Hama 35-in-1 USB 2.0 Multicard Reader that you connected to the computer running Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and ESET Smart Security v5?

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky
