I have Trial version of NOD32 2.7 on my machine and have been reading posts on the this Eset Smart Security forum.

Seems that there is some argument in FAVOUR of NOD32.

Can someone explain reasons why I should buy ESS 3.0 INSTEAD of NOD32 2.7.

I am aware that NOD32 is for legacy computers and doesn't have a Firewall or Anti Spam capabilities, is that all it lacks?

    Thanks for any help.

try ESS Trial if you does not see any issue with ESS or ESS firewall then ESS is best for you
if you having trouble with ESS firewall then you can use any other firewall with EAV
i like these firewall with EAV(work's great)
    COMODO Firewall Pro v3.0.18.309(Free)
    PC Tools Firewall Plus v3.0(Free)

    I guess you haven`t tested Comodo and NOD32 v3.0?
    See this thread:

If you want your firewall to actually work, I would stick with NOD32 v2.7
