ESET Smart Security installs updates

Version 4.2.71.2

It started about 2 months ago when ESET SS downloaded the updates and installed them, I did not change any settings, in fact, I did nothing, it started all on its own.

Anyway, I let it go for a while but I got fedup with it as I could do nothing untill the updates were completed.
About 2 weeks ago I went through all the settings etc and I changed any settings that were likely canditates to be the the culprit.

Nothing worked, has anyone any ideas please.

Thanks for your reply and my apologies for not giving the detail you require.

It is the ESET Smart Security updates that is the "problem", not Windows.
I have gone over the settings in ESS 3 times over the past 2 months to try changing settings without success.

 

So what is the problem exactly? Do you get an error message?

 

No, I dont get any error messages or anything like that.

Its just that when I switch on the PC =W7= when ESS has loaded in, it updates with the latest updates. When it is updating the icons on the task bar and desktop are "blank", they do not have their "details" untill ESS has finished updating, it is then that the icons are then showing their details.

I prefer to manually get the updates to get over that.

 

have you tried to disable the scan which happens when ESS has updated itself?

I went through to options to find the Scan setting for when ESS is downloading the updates and scanning when download is completed, there are some settings that I dont fully understand, that is, what they do.
