    Hello,
We are pleased to announce the availability of a public beta of a brand new and long-awaited version of ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5 and ESET Smart Security 5. The new version has several key improvements and features that are listed below:

    HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention System)
A system analyzing the behavior of running applications and protecting crucial system areas from being altered by malware or other users. Self-defense is now part of HIPS.

    Cloud-Powered Reputation
The Cloud-Powered Reputation system collects information about files from all users participating in the cloud system and uses them to assess the risk level of processes running on the computer. This information is also used to whitelist files for faster scanning.

    Product update check
The product can check for a newer version on the web and provides a quick link for upgrade.

    Gaming mode
Mode intended for gamers in which no pop-up windows appear, scheduled tasks as well as updates are deferred. Gaming mode can be activated automatically if an application running in full-screen mode is detected.

    Device Control by Device ID
Removable media can now be blocked based on several criteria, such as device type, size, serial number, vendor, etc.

    Startup Scan Delay
Scheduled startup scans are now delayed until the CPU consumption calms down after a system start so that more CPU resources are now available to other applications.

    Auto-Scan of Removable Media
Inserting a removable media now pops up a prompt window with an option to scan the media.

    Shutdown After Scan
For scheduled or manually triggered scans it is now possible to enable shutdown after scan.

    Summary Statistics after scan
When a scan completes, a pop-up window notifies the user about the scan result.

    IMAP/IMAPS scanner
A transparent IMAP/IMAPS scanner allows for scanning IMAP/IMAPS communication regardless of the email client used.

    Activation of Product
A new way of product activation has been implemented to streamline the process of activation without the need to enter a username and password.

    Advanced Setup Tree
Redesigned advanced setup tree for more intuitive and easier navigation.

    Improved Tools View
The “Tools” pane was made “dashboard-like” for more intuitive and transparent work. GUI has been reworked and offers easy access to frequently used actions.

    Parental Control (ESET Smart Security)
Parental Control enables parents to define roles for children accounts and thus limit access to web sites, depending on the content.

You can download the beta from http://www.eset.eu/download/beta.

The beta can be installed over an existing version v2/v3/v4. Note that this version is intended for home users and cannot be installed on server systems (except Windows Home Server).

To report a bug, please fill in the beta support form or the internal support form for reporting issues. You can also create a new thread in this beta forum to share and discuss your findings with others.

Prior to reporting an issue, check if it's not already listed in the list of known issues: http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2738. The list is subject to update.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not enable pre-release updates in the beta or pre-release modules for v3/v4 will replace the beta modules.

The option for pre-release updates has been there since v. 4.2, it's nothing new. I presume that the beta will not download newer modules with pre-release updates enabled so during the beta testing it shouldn't matter which type you choose.

Good Morning Marcos. The link takes me to a normal looking entry point (user info needed) for downloading ESS with fileflag/beta at the end of the address.
If I request a trial again (in light of my issue @ https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=297624) will I get the v5 beta?
Yep I've been excited looking for this post for a couple weeks

I uninstalled my ESS4.2 (Dutch 64-bit), and then installed version 5 Beta, all with default options. I made sure it was up to date.
After that I enabled pre-release updates, ran a manual update and it downloaded 38000KB and updated the program modules the notification said (I love the new notifications by the way).

    Installed components (ESS5 Beta 64-bit):

    Virus signature database: 6097 (20110505)
    Update module: 1035B (20110330)
Antivirus and antispyware scanner module: 1299B (2011040:cool:
    Advanced heuristics module: 1118 (20110419)
    Archive support module: 1128 (20110315)
    Cleaner module: 1051 (20110420)
    Anti-Stealth support module: 1024 (20101227)
    Personal firewall module: 1064 (20110215)
    Antispam module: 1016 (2010120:cool:
    SysInspector module: 1219B (20110331)
    Self-defense support module : 1018 (20100812)
    Real-time file system protection module: 1005B (20110311)
    Translation support module: 1010B (20110404)
    HIPS support module: 1015 (20110405)
    Internet protection module: 1012 (20110404)
Web content filter module: 1003 (20110401)
    Advanced antispam module: 1006 (20110317)
    Database module: 1010 (20110406)

Where has the option gone to ask before submitting suspicious files?

I didn't have pre-release updates enabled and I also updated after install and got a few different versions:
    Virus signature database: 6056 (20110419)
    Anti-Stealth support module: 1025 (20110413)
    HIPS support module: 1017 (20110419)
Web content filter module: 1004 (20110406)
So my signature DB is a lot older, but I have 3 newer modules :S

UPDATE:Cleared update cache and manually updated again now I also have the latest virus signatures 6097, and still have those newer modules.

A trial version of v5 will be available after it goes final. In the mean time, it is possible for trial users to try out the beta without by activating it as a beta user after installation.
Should you encounter any of the previous problems, let us know and we'll do our best to figure out the cause so that you can use EAV without hassles.

As for Pre-release updates, do not enable it in the beta or modules for v3/v4 will be download and will replace the beta modules.

If somebody happened to download v4 from the links mentioned in my initial post, please PM me the exact link from which the installer was downloaded. I couldn't reproduce the problem on my end and everything seems to be ok with the servers, too.

Yes, thanks. The 64 bit ESS is marked as version 4 on that page though.

Just to clarify: Can I install the beta on TOP of my v4 and it will retain all current settings?

This is the url I am getting which points to version 4 download. Not the beta. x replaces w to prevent shortcut of url to show.

I see. People from the US are redirected to the US website which leads them to the standard download page. I've amended the link in my initial post so that it points to the beta download page at www.eset.eu
