We recently update our NOD32 Antivirus from version 3 to version 4. Since then any time we try to open an MS Access database on our file server it seems to lock up the file server completely. It doesn't matter if it is an application which access a database, or if we try to directly open an .mdb file. The problem ONLY happens on computers running version 4, and goes away the minute we uninstall it. Version 3 does not have this problem.

What could be causing this to happen?

The version of NOD32 on the server which hosts the .mdb files is still version 3. I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but the page you provided seems to be for version 4.

Better question. Are the mismatched versions causing the issue, or does it have something to do with the issue of slow opening office documents on a windows 2003 share that I noticed in the changelog of the newest version?

In that case, I would recommend upgrading the server to the latest build of 4.0 and following all the steps in the knowledgebase articles I suggested.
