    I am trying to backup over a LAN. There is no communication problem. But I constantly get this error (usually with a different file mentioned) about 1/3 into the backup.

    E00040003: Failed to backup file or folder 'C:\Documents and Settings\***\Desktop\***\***\***\Thumbs.db'.

    Error writing the file. (0x40003)
    function = "WriteFileNoCache"
    Tag = 0x7CEB2CDC9FB1216B
    The specified network name is no longer available (0xFFF0)
    code = 80070040
    Tag = 0xBD28FDBD64EDB8A6

    I am using Version 10 Build 4942 on Windows XP Pro SP2.
    Any ideas?
    Also, do all programs need to be closed in order to do the backup? For example, If I am backing up my pst file, do I need to close Outlook?

    Hello usil,

    Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

    Please download the latest version of Acronis drivers, unpack the archive, install unpacked MSI package and see if the problem persists.

    Delete all files in \Documents and Settings\[Account Name]\Local Settings\Temp\ folder either manually or by running Disk Cleanup wizard from the system drive (e.g. C: ) Properties (remember to check the Temporary Files checkbox).

    If the issue persists, please do the following:

    - Replace C:\WINDOWS\system32\snapapi.dll with the one from the downloaded SnapAPI archive;

    - Reproduce the issue and collect the log file;

    - Get the log file without closing any application windows (including the error message windows if there are any). The log file will be created at C:\ . The name of the log file will be snapapi [date-time].log

    Then submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with a solution.

    Please note that there is no need to close your application during backup due to Acronis Drive Snapshot Technology, which allows to back up system and open files on the local drive with no issue.

    Thank you.

    Thank you!

    I have figured out that I get the error when any other window is open, regardless of what it is. Acronis will always stop on some file on the desktop.
    I will follow your instructions and see if it helps.
