I can confirm that Emsisoft is not replacing Ikarus with Bitdefender engine. My source is a top official in the Emsisoft Business section.

I believe EAM is a dual engine.

I use Malware Bytes AntiMalware as my real time protection.

I also have Hitman Pro and Super Anti Spyware Pro that I use for on demand.

Would it be worth it to also get Emsisoft Anti-Malware as another on demand? As far as I know the on-demand version is free.

Yes, that would be worth adding to your setup.

Emsisoft Anti-Malware, including the free on demand scanner is quite effective.

Adding anything Emsisoft (Firewall, Anti-Malware, Etc.) is a good idea, they make stellar products

Hitman Pro already has EAM as a cloud scanner so it would be almost the same. :D

I wish HMP was able to scan all downloads automatically. That would be awesome.

While I like EAM's detection rates, I found the updates large and they took too long to download. After a week of not updating on my Mom's laptop, it took several minutes to get the definitions up-to-date, compared to seconds for MBAM.

EAM will actually require you to re-download a complete new database file if you missed the last 50 updates. While normal differential updates are quite small (a few kilobytes), the full database is actually quite large (83 MB). Depending on how fast your internet connection is, it may take between a few seconds and up to several minutes to get the new database file.

And other mainstream AV products like Ikarus also do the same downloading near 75 mb of updates as the size of the whole database.
