    hi..

i heard Emsisoft is going to use another engine instead of Ikarus in the future.. what abt it ? and what will be the new engine.. i pray it wont be bitdefender for god sake.. all the AVs are using BD nowadays.. its odd !

and Fabian u're right abt the malware definition.. i myself have seen like this case..but in the AV world people must know malware is including whatever u think..e.x : viruses.. trojan.. spyware..worms..scarewares..ransomwares.. rootkits .. backdoors &...

for whom they dont agree have a glance over here :

I have not heard this but if it is the Bitdefender I would have no issues with that. It's a great engine.

fine but if all the products are usin the same engine why we should take our time usin the third parties :D while the BD itself is available !! i'd rather a product that has created its own engine no matter it is weak but it's wonderfull.. and im sure the next engine wont be kaspersky.. cuz last time g data used kaspersky engine , but kaspersky wasnt offering the uptodated engine and database to g data so g data resigned the contract

I hear you but Emsisoft will still also use it's own engine and contains Mamutu. Also just because some AV's shared the same engine does not mean they will perform the same. Also the BitDefender program itself, not the engine only, has a rep of slowing down too many PC's. Although from what I've been reading lately they might have finally fixed this issue on the BD 2013 beta. Regardless the BD engine is a great engine.

you r right.. but i m not talking about other modules.. the database is what im talking about..once upon a time there was just database.. if database was containing the malware signature you'd stay safe and if not ...

here is the last dynamic test by AV-Comparatives

    http://myup.ir/images/43093391657894115398.png

you see the products which are using BD engine are weaker than BD itself.. because this was a dynamic test and as you know they use all the product capabilities and modules.. not just databse.

fine but as u said & from what ive heard the beta version seems waaaay lighter than previous versions.

    with respect..:thumb:

Well I figured I would try Emsi again, but with the Mamutu disabled this time to avoid problems. During install everything went fine until I got to the part where my computer was to be scanned. That's when I got a message of something about cannot write to canvas. Then the scan stopped and it appeared the install was rolled back to prior to the signatures being downloaded. But Emsi was still on my system. So I just uninstalled and will try something else.

regardless what they used in their engine, I believe Emsi will not let the detection capabilities reduced/crippled.

Even now, all malware not detected by Ikarus engine are covered by Emsisoft own engine.;)

I really liked this program, but I uninstalled it due to blocking many sites.

    Is it warez/porn sites?
because all my current fav websites are not blocked

    and
we can always disable web filtering, or white list the favorites sites ;)

If it blocks a site you like to visit simply unblock it.

EAM Surf Protection does seem to be paranoid but it's to protect users.
Usually the websites it blocks are actually things such as warez as someone said and porn. For geeky people like us we might take the risk since we are more careful about it but for the general/common PC users . . . Well it's a whole different story.
