you cant, you must uninstall EAM v5.1 then install v6, your license number will still be valid.

Do you use any other security software? It appears that for some reason the configuration flag for "wizard has been run" isn't set correctly. You can set it manually though:

    1. Stop the Emsisoft Anti-Malware service (Start, Run, "services.msc", right click the Emsisoft Anti-Malware service in the list and select "Stop").
    2. Open the a2settings.ini in your Emsisoft Anti-Malware directory with Notepad.
    3. In the "[General]" section add a new entry "Initialized=1".
    4. Save the file and start Emsisoft Anti-Malware.

Does the Wizard still appear now?

Because it slows down the scan significantly and in general it doesn't make sense to scan everything using that mode. If you add the Rootkit scan to your selection DDA will be enabled for those areas that are targeted by Rootkits and where enabling DDA would actually make sense.

I disabled the service, but when I opened the configuration file, it would not let me save the edited file, saying access denied. I copied the file out of the folder and made the change, but it wouldn't let me copy and replace the file afterwards, so there is no way for me to change the file. I am an administrator account so I don't know why I can't.

And all other security software I'm using is in my signature.

Can you please check and make sure a2service.exe is no longer running?

According to your signature you are running Mamutu and Emsisoft Anti-Malware at the same time. This can cause a whole lot of issues. Since Mamutu is essentially Emsisoft Anti-Malware with all signature based detection methods removed there is no point in running both at the same time and is the main reason why the setup shouldn't have let you install Emsisoft Anti-Malware before removing Mamutu in the first place. I will see why it obviously didn't do that. In the mean time could you please try to uninstall both EAM and Mamutu and then install EAM 6.0 again? Thanks.

Currently the update tree for EAM 6.0 is the same for beta and stable updates. This will change once EAM 6.0 is released because the stable update tree will stay at the released version while the beta tree will continue to provide beta updates.

So to answer your question: You do not need to check "beta updates" in Emsisoft Anti-Malware 6.0 to get program updates.

I understand running EAM and Mamutu could cause conflicts but I only want to use the on-demand functions of the free EAM. Version 5 installed and worked fine, but should I still uninstall both and reinstall EAM? What about my license for Mamutu. It was a 1 year free license from a giveaway so how would that work if I need to reinstall it?

We just published Emsisoft Anti-Malware 6.0.0.25 through the online update. The setup available in my initial post has been updated as well.

    Changes:
    • Fixed a problem that could cause settings not being saved correctly. This should also address the Security Wizard loop some of you experienced.
    • Fixed a possible freeze in the background guard.
    • Fixed an issue that could cause events to be listed as "undefined event" in your logs.
    • Fixed an issue with handling of infected signed files.
    • Fixed a problem that could cause a crash to occur when certain malware was detected by the File Guard.
    • Fixed an issue that could cause malware detections to have a wrong risk level assigned.
    • The expiration label color has been adjusted slightly.
    • Changed the license expiration notification dialog slightly.

I removed Mamutu and EAM, then reinstalled EAM and now it works.

However, now I don't have the behavior blocking since I am using the free version of EAM. I don't understand why there is a conflict between a behavior blocker and on-demand scanner.

May be because even the on-demand scanner requires a process to be run that it also required by mamutu...
