I just installed the trial version of Nod32 - and went through Blackspears's settings.

In those setttings - it's indicated that EMON only protects Outlook, and not Outlook Express.

    Is this true?

I don't have Outlook (I only have Outlook Express) - so in my case, does
    Nod32 offer email protection?

    Should I disable EMON?

Hi . Protection for POP3 mails is offered by IMON (the internet monitoring which scans all the pop3 and smtp traffic on the early Winsock level ) . The resident protection AMON (performs on-create,on-access and on-execute scans) will not let any malware to run on your machine

You don't need to disable EMON because there is no reason , it will not speed-up your PC

Wow- thanks for the quick reply!

I use outlook express to view / download my Gmail.

Is Gmail pop3? and will IMON scan it if I am downloading my Gmail using outlook express?

Hi ! You are welcome !

I use Gmail , too :) Gmail can have pop3 , too but IMON will not be able to scan it . Gmail uses encryption to code its traffic . IMON works in the early Winsock level and encrypted connetion just cannot be read by IMON .

    But don't worry :
    Gmail has excellent anti-spam
    Gmail has excellent anti-virus
Gmail will not allow you download viruses in your Outlook Express
and ... what is the most important , you have AMON in NOD32 which scan every file on your computers . As I said it will not let any malware run on your computer ;)

"AMON in NOD32 which scan every file on your computers"

So now I have a question about AMON (just little details):
    - If I understand this right - if I download a virus from Gmail - AMON, being the resident scanner, will scan the infected Gmail and stop it. Right?

But does AMON scan every file? I thought it's Nod32 - the on-demand scanner which scans every file?

AMON is the most important part of NOD32 . It performs scan before every file is accessed , after every file is created and before you execute a file .

Mails are downlaoded and immediately stored in dbx files .

I wanted to say that if you somehow happend to get a virus/a worm , for example/ AMON will not let it run, copy and distribute itself , AMON will not let in damage your data . If your NOD32 is up-to-date you are protected ;)

With default settings , NOD32 's AMON scans all kind of files , the on-demand scanner (of every AV) is just deeper

Does AMON scan continuously in the background?

Can I assume eventually my whole hard-drive will be scanned by AMON?

    Thanks again.

Yes, AMON checks every file opening and closing.

No, this is the function of the "On Demand Scanner".

    Cheers :D

    Thanks, you answered my question.

I have some more questions, but I'll start another thread (unrelated to EMON)..
