Since you elected not to purchase AVGAS, IMO you should have spent your hard earned money on a true leader in malware detection & removal instead of wasting it on a band-aid application. If you have a few minutes you should search the other anti-malware software for the keyword SUPERAntiSpyware and read the plethora of positive feedback not only on the program itself, but better yet the support that backs it up. The best part is that it's only $19.95 w/ lifetime updates.

EliteKiller - I DID purchase AVGAS, albeit the licence bought was when it was still Ewido. Please see the very start of this thread, when I described having the paid-for version of AVGAS.

On being taken over by AVG, the licence was extended by them for two years.

Mine was not a conscious decision to buy a licence for AVG, I already had a long lasting one from the then Ewido, whose support was fine.

Apparently, my explanation about technical support both in this and other threats does not not persuade you. I still believe that if any user has a problem, it is better for him or her to get personalized tech support by e-mail that is available 24x7 and is monitored. But opinions may vary of course and that is why we are recently monitoring these threats, too.
The main reason for my post though are the comments about detection. I can assure you that the majority of detection definitions and features of the AVG AS are implemented by the original guys from ewido - and I think that they are doing a good job. Of course, the integration of AV and AS offers better detection then a single AS. Also, please consider the ever changing threat landscape. We are not seeing as many major outbreaks nowadays but rather small waves malware, quite often limited both in amount and geographically. If you look at the results of different tests of AVG antimalware, I think that you will see that they are continuously improving. And of course, further development will provide additional features and protection. So I cannot agree with the statement that AVG AS detection is getting worse - and maybe some of my colleagues from the former ewido team can further elaborate on that. But of course, opinions are to vary ;)

kodl - your reply does not explain why tracking cookies were and are not found by AVGAntiSpyware plus, but could be found and removed by the free Ad Aware 2007 and now the AdAware Plus 2007.

I believe that adaware may delete every single cookie where avg may only delete cookies that could contain trace info and/or may be potentially info gathering..??

other than that....adaware may be doing a better job but ewido was very good in the past....so i dont know..

I don't know about tracking cookies; but as far as real malware is concerned I assure you Ewido still does a great job at detecting the latest rootkits and trojans....Though I do not have a source or a reliable test to prove this; some stuff I saw while fishing around sites like MIRT seems to show that Ewido/AVG AS is still doing great both in terms of actual detection as well as response time :)

Thanks Firecat! It's good to know that Ewido/AVG AntiSpyware is still effective.

    Hello,
as stated in some previous posts, the AVG Anti-Spyware is able to delete the Cookies automatically, without any further notifying. We can also assure you that the detection abilities of the AVG systems have not been lowered in any way.
As you stated before, the problem actually is, that the counter of detected threats doesn't show any detections.
We recommended using the Eicar Test File to check if it is correctly detected. Unfotunately, we do not have the information about result of this test.

At this point we strongly recommend that you contact directly our Technical Support Center about this issue. Our trained specialists will assist you with this matter and answer all your questions.

    Please contact us at technicalsupport@grisoft.com
Also please make sure that you contact us from the email address used for the registration of your product, or attach your AVG license key in the e-mail body.

    Thank you

This was true for versions < 7.5. Starting with AVG AS 7.5 the counter doesn't get increased by blocked cookies anymore as this could lead to very high numbers that may look dubious as cookies are repeatedly getting thrown at you while surfing. Unfortunately this means that at the moment there is zero indication that cookies have been blocked if the option for automatical removal is enabled. So it might quite possibly be the case that AVG AS already blocked most of the cookies and Ad-Aware is only detecting some additional ones which they are also considering as tracking cookies.
