While I will not stand in the way of a parent who is trying to do the right thing, I would so much prefer the parents to sit down with the kids and talk to them about it. Part of why kids head straight for the porn, aside from the fact that their hormones have kicked into overdrive, is the fact that its a mystery and taboo.

Sit down, instill your personal values. This is one of those times were to an extent the kids are like small birds. They are going to start venturing out of the nest, and are going to get into things. If not at home (on your PC) then elsewhere. School. Friends. Library. Kids can and will find a way.

If you take the mystery out of it, I think you'll go a lot farther than simply throwing up roadblocks saying "Don't go there, its not for you." I mean, when you were their age, what was the first thing that you did when your parents said "Don't." Honestly.

Some of us been luckier then others i guess.

When my dad said no to something it was as the Almighty saying if you do it expect something disappointing to happen in return, and it did, right on the seat of my bare bottom with a belt. I wouldn't trade that discipline i got for nothing in the world and am deeply indebted to him for life because he knew the alternative could been worse for him and me then just my few minutes of squawling over the spanking i deserved.

But that was then and this is now.

I agree though then in part but checks & balances were created for a reason and it's long overdue these safety measures be taken under some serious considerations before they end up serving as some relics from the past and thus make for open invitations for kids to do what they dam well decide to do, even when it's wrong.

Take it easy folks. Sure, the Internet possess some dangers for kids and teens, but it isn't the end of the world.
As KookyMan said, put more value in talking to your children than in strict discipline.

In the options in Ad Muncher there is a tickbox for 'Remove images with suspected adult content' this is useful as the K9 filter or Naomi can't always remove images.

    No, let's not go there...

And clearly most of them have nothing to do with computing security or software. Thread closed!
