    TheMozart,

As you probably now realize, the whole HD is a dynamic drive. All the partitions are on the dynamic drive.

I did some experimenting with a dynamic drive and I wasn't happy with the TeraByte method or markymoo's method. I think you are stuck with that dynamic drive.

Does this mean that I am never able to backup C: and restore it in case of emergency? NO backup imaging programs can handle it? EaseUS, Paragon, Macrium etc? :'(

So if something goes wrong in W7, I have to do a complete factory restore and start all over again?

Will W7 "create restore points" and "restore a restore point" work? Maybe that's my only option :(

If it can back it up, I am betting it can restore it. I am just not sure if it wll restore it as Dynamic Disk or Basic Disk (which would actually be preferable).

I emailed EaseUS to ask them, and this is the reply I got:

    Hello Mozart,

The current version of our product can backup dynamic disk or dynamic
volume, but, you can't restore the backup image to dynamic disk/volume,
and you can restore it to basic disk/partition, sorry for the
    inconvenience.

Please feel free to contact me if I can be of further assistance.

So my question is, what's the use of backing up if I can't restore?

What can I do now? What do you all recommend for me is the best solution to have a backup and restore ability? What shall I do? :'(

Well it will restore...it will just restore it as a Basic Disk rather than a Dynamic Disk. If you really want Dynamic Disk, you could just manually convert the restored Basic Disks after the fact. I first saw this with Acronis way back in the day (v8.x). I actually did this a few times to convert Dynamic back to Basic. :)

But will it boot seeing the C: would now be basic and not Dynamic?

Hey Brian, if I backup my Dynamic C: with EaseUS and then restore it, as it restores it as Basic and not Dynamic, will W7 still load seeing Easeus restored C: as Basic and not Dynamic?

Probably but I'm not 100% sure. According to EaseUS email and napoleon1815, it should work. If I were you, first I would backup my documents, bookmarks, etc., so at least you have those available in the worst case. Then image your partitions. Then follow instructions at How to Convert Dynamic Disk to Basic Disk without Data Loss?. If that doesn't work, then restore from the images that you just made.

As MrBrian mentioned, I think it will work...but again, I can't test with Easeus. I have done this fine with Acronis.

If it worked, and W7 still loads, then I can convert C: back to Dynamic?

But that hidden SYSTEM partition which contains the following folders and files concerns me:

    Boot
    System Volume Information
    bootmgr
    EUMONBMP.SYS

Why does W7 need that SYSTEM partition? My C: also has Boot and
System Volume Information folders, why do both partitions need it?o_O

This is to confirm that EaseUS 4.0 supports backing up an Dymanic Disc but it does NOT support restoring it.

This is the message I got after selecting the image and then trying to restore it back to C:

    "Target: Dynamic Disc (Not supported)"

If you want to convert to basic disk, see post #35.

Notice carefully in that link, it says: "Convert to basic disk feature can only process dynamic disk with simple volumes. The other types of dynamic volume like spanned volume, striped volume are not supported"

Mine is spanned right? I have SYSTEM partition, C:, D: and E: that are created from the HP Rescue DVDs.

According to the image you posted earlier, all of your volumes are simple.

Ok, so I installed EASEUS Partition Master 9.1.0 Home Edition and selected "convert to basic" but it popped up an ERROR message:

    http://i41.tinypic.com/141vde1.jpg

So I chose NO to continue.

Any ideas why it failed? :(

UPDATE: I fixed it, it was maybe due to my TrueCrypt partition being opened, so I closed it, and I also did a CHKDISK and DEFRAG.

Hey Brian, look at this pic:

    http://i43.tinypic.com/cs16u.jpg

Couldn't have done it without ya ;) I really appreciate your help, guidance and support and patience to help me. I am now going to try a EaseUS image restore and hopefully it will work OK!

Does this mean I can now remove the hidden SYSTEM partition? and the E: TOOLS partition?
