DVD drive says another program is already using?? malware?

hi,
recently ive been formatting some DVD's on my laptop and every time i

get a message something like "DVD drive is already in use by another program,
.. continue with format?"

im just wondering if this is anything to be concerned about as i dont recall this
happening a few months ago on my laptop pc...i have also just re-installed the
factory installed OS image yesterday, and i still get this message...i have tried
formatting thses DVD's right after bootup, and have also tried to find any
program that might possibly be checking the DVD status?, cant seem to find
anything though....(running Vista, if it matters)
(i dont recall seeing this message before the last few weeks)


am wondering if this is just nothing to concern about?
