DSKCHK does not work

    Dskchk doesn't work in windows xp when I click on local disc c: properties
    tools and then check now
    it does prompt me to run at restart, because it doesnt have access to the disc. so when I restart...It says NTFS is your file system and it cannot run do to access denied directly..what gives with this It ran a month ago..
    please help I have windows xp professional
