    doesn't look too great,

still expected at 'summer 2008' ... but what date does this mean?

delays have been added before, so i still expect more to arrive.

drweb's main priority at the moment, is their AV-DESK service.

which means totally squat, for us windows AV 'normal AV' users.

    :doubt:

Beside the GUI. There are two things that I would like DrWeb to have. 1) A new engine to improve detection and this is an absolute necessity in order for DrWeb to compete successfully against other AVs, and 2) Stronger self protection. This one is a no-brainer, what good detection rate could be if an AV could be easily disable through its processes, drivers, and files by malware?

Impatiently waiting for the new version of DrWeb. I will even get rid of my NOD32 for DrWeb if it is a solid product, as I expect it will. Kudos to C.S.J. without any doubt DrWeb greatest FAN.:) :thumb:

lets move it back to here....

I think it will be heavier, the more things you add, the more top-heavy it gets.

however, they work very hard to keep it 'as light as it could be' and im sure it will be. ;)

most heavy software products are due to poor coding, im 100% sure that this wont be the reason for drweb v5, as i know they work extremely hard to keep it optimized to its peak.

but i do predict it to be heavier and people should expect it so.

    my prediction anyway :)

The key is what I contemplated; "far heavier" or just heavier- and I agree with you- of course it will be heavier- but not far heavier. There is obviously a huge difference, and I will stick with the program as long is stays heavier- not far heavier.

we are talking about v5.00 beta, not a released version.

im still hoping for an August release of the beta, but its not wise to trust any dates from drweb, as ive learned this in the past. :doubt:

Exactly, how many years has the good Dr said they are coming out with version 5? 3 or 4?

I will believe it when I see it, not a second sooner!

yes, but other versions have been out since then, they usually bring a new version every year, like everyone else :)

This could easily be called v6 or v7 or whatever :)

But even igor has said it will be this autuum, so I very much expect the beta shortly.... Finally :)

Have to respect them for not rushing and releasing crap ..if they think it's not good enough for the public.

Indeed; I will accept that Dr.Web's engine has seen some good improvements since 2002 - but in essence the core still is the same as it was in 2002.....not to mention the interface which is a bit outdated now (well, 4.44 isn't all that bad but still). If they just put in a quarantine and a new interface without changing anything else; even then Dr.Web would have been immensely more marketable....

    just an update,

Parental Control and Self-Defense has been added to the product now,

HIPS module will NOT be in the beta when it enters in 'Autuum' , but will make it into the released version.

scanning engine is expected to be 10-30% faster than 4.44

i shall keep you posted, if more information arrives at me, unless asked not to.

    peace.

id take a scanner that actually protects and removes, over a glorified exe remover anyday. ;)

and yes, its nice to see drweb 'creating new technologys' and putting them in future versions. :D
