Well oddly enough, with this new BMP virus scare, I decided to install another AV product, and check my box, and Dr. Web reports a BMP virus as being on my system, and reports the file that is suspect.

Ugh, hope it really isn't one. NOD32 says it checks out fine.

What should I do with it?

I would submit it to samples@nod32.com and keep it in Dr. Web's quarantine until I heard from Eset.

Well I tend to, but after running BOCLean for a month aside NOD32, and BOClean picking up a half dozen confirmed Trojans that NOD32 missed, i'm quite alarmed.

Besides, i've not heard a single peep out of NOD32 folks about if they have support for finding these new BMP threats.

I'm half tempted to install KAV and test the file and see. Could be a Dr.Web false alarm, who knows.

That's a weird rant. I'm not addicted to av updates. I only very recently changed mine to auto and on auto to once every 24 hours. I find it very irritating to have some dumb box stuck in my face when I am not expecting it. I'll probably go back to updating when I decide to update. As for other AV, Symantec still has weekly only updates unless there is a major outbreak. So who says everyone is updating every hour? Where's the proof? Just a rant.

As for heuristics being the future, I agree but I don't think the methodology is there yet even with NOD's heuristics. So, I don't believe that rant for one minute. I don't believe that if these "addicted" users were to all in unison say tomorrow that they want to be "unaddicted' and please give us only heuristics ...ha! the AV vendors are not ready and can't do that ...yet. Someday, yes, probably, but not today. So again it was a strange rant...but entertaining.

When somebody can come back and say they were wrong, they have gained respect. Good post. :)
