So far in my limited testing I have been pleased with the results of DS. However, the self protection needs to improve and so does the support. The two biggest issues I have found is the slowness of support and the CPU time is high (compared to most other Security apps I've tried).

Do the testers amongst you (Kees et al) consider DS to be good enough to be run by itself for a Joe Public user that keeps away from the dark side, or, do I need to add Avira?

security's about 3 steps. Prevention. Detection. Cure. You need either a software which does all 3 (like suites) or 3( or more.!!!) independent programs.

1.Prevention consists of firewall, router, hips, srp, limited user a/c.
2.Detection consists of anti-virus, anti-malware i.e. programs that have scanners built into them.
    3.Cure consists of backup solutions.

There is some overlap, as always, amongst programs.

DriveSentry is prevention and detection so it can be used as standalone. it wont catch 100% but thats not the point if you have 'Cure' present coz in that rare moment you goto step 3. :argh:

With DS, I would secure my web-browser (using a sandbox, or protected mode, or policy based hips, running in limited user.. lots of options). The browser is the biggest entry point (after an un-firewalled system) for rogue apps, in my opinion.

ps. even if you dont have any security stuff running make sure you have step 3.... thats the most important one. :D

    Hi,

Can you please give me the link where CIS shown 96% detection rate? I am currently using DS, but if CIS has a better detection rate, I might switch to it. But, in most of reviews, I could see that CIS's detection rate is very poor.

    Thanks,
    Balaji.

If you are looking for recent test results for Comodo antivirus it's the link in the first post in "Latest test from the Malware Research Group Project #19".
That thread is 4 or 5 topics below this one.

I am not sure how much I can rely on the malware research group test. See the below links with negative reviews about CIS. More over, I don't think comodo is participating in av-test or av-comparatives tests.

These negative reviews are a great concern for me. I know many people have reported the lower detection rates of Comodo, but comodo did not seem to improve in this aspect though they have a very active forum. I will be comfortable to use CIS when its detection rate will be at least 97%.

    Thanks,
    Balaji.

    Hi,

Thanks for the link. I know both comodo's firewall and defense plus are excellent products, but as you mentioned and I am concerned about antivirus too.

    Thanks,
    Balaji.
