https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/download-manager/daoidaoebhfcgccdpgjjcbdginkofmfe?hl=en Is this download manager extension safe? Permissions for copy & paste file, manage extensions & themes, read & change visited website data, etc...? Does software from github means safe? The software & developer is from github.
I didn't think people used download managers anymore, with browsers doing multi-part downloads, fast connections, and so forth.
Which browser does multipart download? The extension is not a download accelerator but download manager for chrome providing easy access & functions. I am from India & high speed net is not available or very costly. The maximum speed provided by service providers at our location is 4mbps/10GB Monthly/1000 bucks & thats what I am using.
I use Internet Download Manager for 2 reasons: 1) It maximizes my download speeds beyond anything a browser can achieve on its own 2) but more importantly, it allows me to download any streaming video I am watching, be it a trailer on IMDB, or a video on YouTube, or........ you name it..... It even gives me a selection of which quality of the video I want to download before it starts downloading. this greatly helps if ever there was streaming issue, I'd just download it locally within seconds and watch it with no stutter
Same here, the second reason may be more important. In my case, IDM increases the download speed by about 12-15% relative to the "nominal" speed. As the nominal speed increases, this matters less in practice.
EagleGet is good and also allows you to download streaming videos but I don't like to have any free software on my PC except CCleaner and MPC-HC and KODI. Rest are all paid. I don't trust these free software companies.
The download manager extension I have mentioned in the opening post I read some reviews on Chrome page, quite a few have mentioned it adds affiliate code to amazon.com urls. Whats that & anything to worry?
I used Orbit Downloader back in the days, but only for file sniffing. I don't really need one, and I'm also not impressed with current popular ones, like EagleGet and Download Ninja, something just doesn't feel right about them.
I would be cautious, a lot of extensions often turn out to be spyware. It does look a bit similar to other download-extensions from Firefox.
