    poll is a bit old and currently my choice would be Orbit Downloader.

    I tried Orbit yesterday, to download AA 2.8 (2.5 GB), and in two hours or so it's here. I'm amazed. And it has P2P capabilities, but i don't know if it's for show.
    If some other program could have done it, probably, but this is my first stand alone download manager, and i'm impressed.
    I think it handles video's too (streaming), but didn't check.

    An update: uninstalled Orbit. Got fed up with the pop-ups from OA, and although it seems faster than Opera's download manager, it isn't THAT faster. Something wasn't right, but i have nothing to say against it.

    Usual and normal connection popups.
    But i never used a download manager, so i was unconfortable with all those connections. Just that.
