I couldn't find this answer in either the forums or KB. I'm simply interested to know if TI home 2009 supports file name tracking ability. In otherwords, when it calculates the delta required for an incremental backup, if a file exists in a previous full/incremental backup but has since had its file name changed, will the next incremental backup consider that a new file or simply log the change in the delta?

Any change will put it into the incremental.

I would suspect the behavior is like mirroring using robocopy:
The "old" file does not exist any more, so its removed.
The "new" file is now included.

    :)

Yes, so would I, but the point of posting was to know for sure. Does Acronis tech monitor these forums?

    Hello chipzoller,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image

Acronis True Image doesn't support file name tracking ability. The program uses a low-level technology, i.e. Acronis software reads the sectors on the volume and doesn't distinguish any files and folders. While creating an incremental or differential backup it checks the current state of the sectors and the sectors that changed the state in comparison with the full backup are included into incremental or differential backup.

    Thank you.

Thank you. That is part of what I wanted to know. The other part is how Acronis stores the delta in an incremental archive. When it compares the sector on which a file has been renamed, does the utility recognize this as a new file and copy it whole, or merely the changed bits?
