Hi! I recently dropped my computer and messed it up. Everything still works, but the case is really dented and I need to go get it repaired. Dell will most likely ship me an entirely new computer.

I have a big 250GB backup drive that I use Acronis True Image 11 to make a single backup file on.

I have tried testing it out by plugging in a regular USB stick with the backup CD running, but it didn't recognize the drive. Does True Image not support this? If so, this is very disappointing because I do not know how I will restore all of my data. Does anyone know how I would go about doing so if it doesn't support it?

    Welcome to the forum.

If the backup image is valid and TI correctly supports your computer's hardware, then you should be able to restore the image okay. In many cases, TI won't show a flashdrive as a valid restore destination.

Can you boot to the TI CD with the USB hard drive attached and successfully validate the image?

Does TI correctly see the internal hard drive?

Normally, the procedure would be to connect the USB drive, boot to the TI CD and then do the restore to the internal drive.

I found the problem! When I was looking at the drive list, I was overlooking "Removable Disk A:\" It occurred to me that I don't have a floppy drive even though Acronis told it that it was a floppy drive :p Everything should work all right for me.

Also, I do have one other question. My backup drive is in NTFS format. Does the bootable rescue disk support restoring from an NTFS drive?

There shouldn't be a problem. NTFS is normally used for large image files. If you use FAT32, the image will be split into 4GB parts.
