    HI

Does it matter if a website's security certificate has expired?

I am try to buy a gift from this site http://www.mykarma.co.uk

and i get security warning on firefox and IE when clicking 'checkout'

Its has a answer machine on the phone number (could be skype)
    and a PO box.

Is the security certificate a must?
How do i check if a shop site is good?

    Cheers

I think the main issue is that you don't know if the site is still trustworthy or not.

The cert system is basically a very in-depth background check on a website and the people who are a part of it. Before they give them a cert they make sure they aren't crooks.

The cert will still allow for encryption of your connection. It just means that they haven't paid for/ undergone the background check.

cheers i wrote to them via email with a disposable email address, so i'll see what comes of it.

But if the certificate is 2009 then it will still be safe to give details. I figure i could pay by paypal so i will be taken off the main site.

Since when has paypal made me feel safe lol :)
