Does ESS need a HIP as well?

On another forum it was suggested that a HIP is needed because ESS Firewall idoesn't include the HIP functions. I had been looking at Comodo free and then thinking of NOD32 instead of ESS.
A user suggested that a HIP would be a better choice than Comodo. What is on offer, that is free? I've found a couple DSA and Werner Trust. But still I am unsure of what a HIP does that ESS doesn't.

Every AV software (with the possible exception of Kaspersky) has weaknesses that can be plugged by a HIPS. This is, however, assuming you know how to use one; you're better off without it otherwise.
