I have NOD32 configured to automatically update the virus signature database.

When I am away from home during the week, my wife logs into Windows XP most days, using her non-admin account.

When I return home at the end of the week, I find that NOD32 has not updated its virus signatures since the day that I last logged into my (administrative) account.

When I am at home, I find that NOD32 updates almost every day.

Does automatic update only work if a user with admin rights is logged in?

    OS: Windows XP Pro (SP2)
    AV: NOD32 2.12.3
    Firewall: Outpost Pro 2.5.370

No, it should run as a system task, independent of users.

It checks for updates on my machine even when there are no users logged in (as long as the machine is on, of course) ;)

Maybe it is a firewall problem.

In my NOD32 event log, I see that it has had trouble connecting to the Eset server while I was not logged in.

The Application and System configuration rules in Outpost Pro SHOULD apply whoever is logged in.

NOD32 has no problems getting through the firewall when I am logged in.

Has anybody else had similar problems?

try shutting down our outpost pro and seeing if the problem occurs with either no firewall (not recommended) or the windows SP2 firewall

I'll try it when I get home on Friday.

I'll also try a manual virus signature update from my wife's account to see if that works and check the Outpost Pro logs afterwards, to see whether NOD32 has been blocked (assuming it fails).
