It refers to the registry still pointing towards something which has most probably been removed - the CCleaner forum will give you more detailed answers, but it is still something that can be removed from the registry.

As in, turn it into (as good as) one because it won't boot properly, lol

    I'll try that, thanks.

yea, those, like under that link, are the kind of explanations I was looking for. Thanks. I guess I'll have to ask on that forumpage if I want to know about the others of my list.

lol... I'm past that problem already *sigh* had to use testdisk to get my computer to boot again. - That was before I found the documentsx.exe entry.

Thanks guys for all the help so far!

ok prevx 3.0 found nothing... I guess maybe it really is just a remnant in the registry. after all, my virus programs found quite a few viruses that I cleaned out before posting here. so if I remove the reg entry in the startup folder, I can get rid of it for good.... ?

    MBR

    Hi guys, it's me again...

okay, this might not have anything to do with documentsx.exe

However, remember how I said, at the beginning of this thread, that I fixed a problem with testdisk? I thought it was virus related but maybe not.

What happened was, my computer suddenly restarted (a couple days after I had removed all the viruses) and it hung at "verifying cmi pool data" - it just wouldn't boot. So I made a bootable cd with testdisk on it and ran it. I rewrote the MBR with the help of the testdisk program and my computer started just fine. Everything was just fine for quite a while. But just now it did the same thing again. It restarted, hung at "verifying cmi pool data" and I used testdisk to rewrite the MBR and now it starts fine...

My question is, what causes this problem? Does anyone have an idea? Could it be a virus after all?! Or could it be that my harddrive is going bad?!

    Thanks!

    Re: MBR

Brief update: It restarted again, I fixed it again and it just restarted once more. In other words, the MBR seems to be going bad faster and faster now.

First it was some days, then about 45 minutes, the last time between restarts (and my MBR fixes) was about 30 minutes...

    any ideas? harddrive going bad?

Thank you stapp, but quite obviously I already stated that the problem originates in a bad MBR - I keep repairing it and it keeps failing over and over again.

    @ Kyria

Sounds like either your MBR is constantly getting reinfected by malware, or as you mentioned possibly your drive going bad.

Could you try and copy the MBR/s and examine it/them and see if you notice anything dodgy ?

Also i would use the latest TDSS rootkit cleaners and see what they do !

    will do, thanks!!!

Now here is another question: sometimes, since about a year now, when I try to turn my computer on, it powers up for 1 sec and then shuts right back down. If I hit the power button again it starts normally. Could that be in any way related to my above MBR problem?

Ok I used the program you suggested. It found nothing except a locked file: a kernel driver sptd.sys
