i don't use them. I have my power option set to just turn off the monitor after a period of inactive time.

And I agree with you - most of the "free screensaver" websites I've seen are designed to load yo up with adware or malware.

With LCD monitors, I don't bother with screen savers at all. They come on fast, so like others I just dim the screen.

Actually with win7 hybrid sleep, I let my machines go to sleep after awhile. I rarely shut them down at all. Older sleep or standby I did not care for.

Not free but are often on sale for cheap. I tend to like the ones with clocks because they show the current time.
Kaspersky (at least in the past) would often flag them as malware (false positive). They encrypt their executables to slow people down from making keygens.

I just shut the screen off, the only screen saver I ever liked was the maze from Windows 98

No point having one waste resources. Just turn off the screen.

Like Sully, I have a flatscreen (LCD) monitor, and since that draws so little power relative to older CRTs, I don't bother with screensavers or with shutting it off other than when I shut the whole system down at night.

On the extremely rare occasions that privacy's a concern (I'm normally the only user) while I'm going for a coffee, say, I'll simply switch to a blank window.
