Hello, Thanks for the link, I did visit and read about the service. The odd thing is, I ran Fix-It, MSConfig, and RegEdit, and there is no single service entitled MHN [Multimedia Home Networking]. The link states that the service is started by "C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs". So I went back into Fix-It (it's capable of sorting by service startup name) and found 30 services being started with that name. So all of the CPU time listed in the report must be a summary of all 30 services. I've attached a thumbnail with more info. Regards, Nathan
Hello, I just tried that, and still no luck. I think Fix-It PC Startup Analyzer may be combining the services that have the same executable name and parameters as MHN. Regards, Nathan
Not anymore, no need antivirus. I used CIS long time and did scan with mbam and hitmanpro sometimes, i have never faced with real threat. I set up built-in security. Faster and lighter
I don't know whether it is a matter of semantics or else, but when people say "I don't use/need an antivirus because I check my stuff with scanners, they are really using antivirus technology without real time guard. I'd like to reply, no big deal if you use AVs without real time, you are still using antivirus protection. To me someone who runs without an AV is somebody who relies exclusively on their own judgement, SRP and HIPS. Some members are, not many, as most of the time scanner technology (also called antivirus technology) is still the the most popular way to identify malware.
Excellent point, Osaban. Like, "I don't wear glasses, but I look through them when I want to read fine print".
That's exactly what I see. Many do not use signatures and they say things are outdated, but they also use them. I really think signatures are outdated, but in an anti-virus or suite is not just the signature that counts. For example, the NIS 2012, it is based on signatures, yes! But this alone? No way! Anti-virus continue to provide excellent protection, indeed!
I'm not using any real-time AV at the moment; have dumped them for good. My old system just could not bear some of the resource-hungry AVs.
Lol, you do relaize that Sandboxie uses more resources then a couple of AV products I know. Sig included.
Yes I do. Different ones I different machines as well (for different reasons). AV's that I currently run are: NOD32 Avast KIS 2012 WSA
Real time AV here (even though I've never really needed it), no performance hit using it. (I haven't needed automobile liability insurance either, but I DO carry it.)
I'm not using SBIE either, although I have used it in the past. The only security app I'm running at the moment is PFW, with all security settings set to high, and it couldn't be lighter than this set up.
Yes but not always enabled For the same reason, a top notch reliable HIPS is my main operational protective gear. In high risk hunts for malware, the AV is also in tandem which makes Live capture of samples more safe to carry out. EASTER
