Yes, I run real time AV. The most recent catches were two viruses found while surfing... one when searching for car parts, and one when searching for vacation lodging. These were not exactly dark side web sites. So anytime I hear someone say, "I don't need an AV, I just use my brain", I think... well, you'd better not want car parts or a hotel room.
NO - just don't feel any need for a real-time AV, but i do run on-demand scans from time to time using hitman pro.
First how you know they not false positive. Common to have cookie picked as virus! Second how can they run with you setup. I only use on demand scan since I default block execute and now use sandboxIE. So yes can just use brain. Simple.
I shop for car parts for my drag racing hobby all the time!! No antivirus here and never 1 issue!!!!!!
No real time av for a few years. No regrets. Only on-demand MBAM which mostly just sits there like a white elephant, anyway
I have been always divided about this issue, and went for long periods with and without it. Given the situation in my activity whereby a lot of USB flashdrives are frequently plugged in my computers, real time detection has always provided a quick way to know if infections were running during the virtual sessions, and as a result, a way to check potentially infected files to commit to my drive. My current feeling is that given the fact that computers lately are all fairly powerful, running a real guard doesn't seem to affect their performance as it used to in the past.
Yes I do use real time protection. Eset had never failed me. I now that no system can be 100 percent immune from every threat, but our first defense is our brain and behavior on the web. Best Regards Woodgiant
Ever since i discovered and explored the AppLocker feature, i dont feel the need to use an AV real-time.
Yes, although I consider other protection components (especially HIPS, FW and Sandbox) more important. No reason to not have a real-time scanner if it doesn't slow down the computer too much.
