    I think we'll see W7 SP2 around 3-6 months after a successful launch of Windows 9.

    I don't understand. 8.1 is just a 8 refresh if that.

I mainly want a SP2 for the new ISO. It's getting ridiculous how much stuff has to be downloaded to update a fresh installation.

I don't get the maths in this statement:
24 months is 2 years so surely that would've been this year? Maybe I misunderstood that.

just save a disk images, one right after install and before updates (disable auto-updates during install), then another disk image right after the Windows Updates.

then you can just reload whichever images you need and work from there.

And MS can't release a line of tablets whose best attribute is their musical dancing tv ads.

I haven't tried since the days of XP. I have heard that since Vista you cannot, but I'm sure that if that is incorrect someone will let us know.

That may be true for now - there is nothing being said about a possible service pack. Meanwhile, get ready for another Patch Tuesday.

I have no idea why vista and onward you have to install SP1 and then SP2.
It was great on 2k and xp just grabbing the latest sp and installing it and done.

It IS getting to be a pretty big pain to do a fresh install even with an SP1 disk. Takes me about 3 hours to install the SP1 disk and fully update Win 7. Then another hour and a half for apps and to copy data etc. They really should release an SP2 and some SP2 ISO's if they plan on supporting 7 for several more years. That would help. Otherwise some people will probably just use pirated copies that are already updated because it's easier...
