do i need lacie software to manage lacie external usb hard disk?

    Hi

    do I need lacie software to manage external usb hard disk?

    i bought one , and there are some software inside

    but i don't like to install cr@ps

    it's enough use the hard disk manegaer of windows 7 or xp?

    i did not install lacie software

    I have a lacie external usb drive and the first thing I did was a quick format.

    I didn't want the lacie software either :)

    but in the lacie software there is

    LaCie USB firmware updater for Windows , is it risky to update firmware?
    what'about firmware?

    and a program like true crypt

    and other tools

    I didn't want any of their tools.

    I prefer to use my own choice of tools.

    may i ask you at cold start boot of you pc/laptop have you to push the power button of you hard disk ,or does it auto turn on?

    I don't keep it connected all the time.

    I connect it when I want to use it.
