I noticed that when on 32 bit it took a half hour. On 64 bit it takes about an hour and a half. Why is this?

Yea same stuff. I did install my 64 bit over my 32 bit Windows 7 and I deleted my Windows.old folder. So I have no idea why it takes longer.

64-bit Windows has more files to scan, but not enough that it makes me think that's the reason. Are you sure it's scanning the same areas?

I do have my GOG.com game files, large picture folders and Steam excluded to save time. Did the same for my 32 bit. Doing a full system scan. It also took this long with Avast. 30 mins or so with 32 bits about 1.5 for 64.

Just technology-wise, I can think of a few reasons that scans may take longer. The easiest to think of is disk fragmentation, based on an install over an existing one. But beyond that, the cause of the scan duration is really up in the air.

Is that even necessary? I defrag once every 3 months or so.

No way it would take 1 extra hour just because of the 32bit or 64bit difference. Just not possible. You got something else going on there...
