Is there a reliable comparative test showing how efficient different AVs are at cleaning problems that they find. There's lots of research on how good they are finding bad stuff... but then what? Some seem to leave you in the lurch some do not. But which?

Checked av-comparatives.org but cannot see anything there. At westcoastlabs.com they say passed or not and checkvir.com says sample disinfected but I haven't seen much that reaally answers the question.

There is a thread about this kind of test, Drweb and Norton did well, but I can clean myself, except some file infection

Symantec/Norton products are very good at clean up of machines with tons of crap. Also Kapersky. This is based on actual clean up experience. There are all sorts of free removal tools out there for some of the difficult stuff. Just Google "remove xyz".

Clean up generally involves multiple applications of different demo AV's. Some products that are great at keeping crap off are not so great at cleaning.
