Although ABP, Noscript and control of cookies makes the use of this add-on less urgent, I must admit it is 1 of the better privacy add-ons (without much input) that I've tried/used. It's becoming part of must-have add-ons for Firefox.
I found the add-on via the cited LifeHacker article and have been enjoying the added protection it offers ever since. It is also now one of my preferred Mozilla add-ons. Thanks for your feedback.
hi siljaline, i am intersted to know what protections does it offer in addition to ABP. It looks like ABP also does the same. Me, i am using ABP along with NoScript (with first party domains allowed, this way most of the sites work, no need to whitelist sites much)... I tried using disconnect by disabling ABP, but it seems is not as effiecient as ABP, like youtube - some welcome ad is played, ofcourse it is not intrusive. So, ok here. fudzilla - did not block completely and site look was not as perfect when ABP is there... So, interested to know if it adds any protections to my setup (ABP + noscript (1st party domains allowed)) Thanks in advance
how does this compare to Ghostery in your experiences? i tried Disconnect a month ago. but i thought the info shown was done better in Ghostery. the info was bunched in groups in Disconnect.
just gave it another try minutes ago... in Disconnect, in the Contents group, it allows way too much stuff. Ghostery blocks most of the stuff that Disconnect allows... Meh.

i'd rather have this blocked by default like Ghostery does. i haven't seen any site breaking for me with Ghostery anyway. i use Ghostery as an easy to use alternative to NoScript, to reduce the 'sludge' and not so much for security or tracking protection. in this function, Ghostery function better for me than Disconnect. though it looks than Ghostery blocks more than Disconnect anyway.
as far as i test and found the best combo is adblock fanboy list for tracking + ghostery ! i use ONLY adblock for long time , but i found out adding ghostery also make the site load even faster ... regarding Disconnect , it always fail me ... i dont want to look on the new version cheers
Noticed that on chrome (Task manager) cpu usage goes significantly higher with Ghostery (3 times more) when it's blocking stuff compared to Disconnect. ram usage is on par on both though.
Disconnect accepts donations, unlike Ghostery which makes its money another way. *IF* they make enough money with donations, then it's safe to assume they don't sell their data.

their site seems to be experiencing major problems today. lots of their pages are not working and i can't connect at all using IE11.
I've just noticed that and have informed them via Twitter. The Forum is currently down as far as I can tell but the main site is working. Reload the app and see if that helps - this is what I did under Firefox. Regards,

thanks for the advice, but they should be keeping care of business themselves. i'm not the night janitor or caretaker for their company. the site is barely working with IE 11 as of now. i'll have another look tomorrow.
That may be due to the fact that Disconnect is not available for *IE* - if it was - I would be running it. Support options are available in prior posts in this thread.
well, there are not many security or privacy extensions that runs under IE Enhanced Protected Mode. Ghostery won't even run under those conditions so i suspect Disconnect would not either. i was trying to connect all day to the Disconnect site with IE so i could install the plugin, which obviously does not exist, from your comments. thanks for the heads up.
