Disabling DCOM

    hi all

    i was wondreing if some one could tell me if these instructions for disabling DCOM are correct coz im not quite sure if i got them right or not

    Windows NT or 2000

    Click [Start]
    Click [Programs]
    Click [Administrative Tools]
    Open [Component Services] then [Computers]
    Right-click [My Computer] and select [Properties]
    Click the [Default Properties tab]
    Uncheck [Enable Distributed COM on this computer] checkbox
    Click OK and close the Component Services console window.
    Restart the system

    Windows XP or Sever 2003

    Click [Start]
    Click [Control Panel]
    Click [Performance and Maintenance]
    Click [Administrative Tools]
    Open [Component Services] then [Computers]
    Right-click [My Computer] and select [Properties]
    Click the [Default Properties tab]
    Uncheck [Enable Distributed COM on this computer] checkbox
    Click OK and close the Component Services console window.
    Restart the system

    Hi Bubba

    i already had a read of that page but i didnt really understand it i especaly dont understand why ya need to use the reg editer when it can be done much more safley from the gui

    so can anyone verifiy if i have this right ??

    At GRC.com (shields up) there is a utility called dcombobulator (approx) that will do it for you if you want the easy way out.
