I believe ZA still uses Kaspersky for its antivirus signatures but what is the differences between the ZA av and KAV? ZA has the OS firewall KAV has some special features- does ZA have the iswift/ichecker, cloud updating, all the scanning engines of KAV?

what is the same and what is different between these two?

    Hello!
KAV and ZA are two completely different products with their own proactive protections, on the cloud checking (ZA OSfirewall), sandbox (forcefield)... etc.. etc... they only share the signature based engine.

Difference? Both provides excellent protection. Try them and stick with the one that works best for you :)

    Hi,

ZA is using the old KAV SDK, which is basically the V6 engine and signatures. It doesn't include the KSN cloud network, packer/suspicious object detection, the PE Heuristic emulator and script emulator or any other scanning technologies introduced since V7

Wow, thats news. So basically what you are saying is that ZA is completely outdated to say the least, and probably totally sucks from a detection standpoint.

I found ZA a lot lighter than the previous versions of it and lighter than KIS but not as fancy. Well detection and protection is pretty decent and especially ZAES is a really nice suite for protection. It does not slow surfing the internet I guess the price is a little salted but that's all about it to complain, the rest is really noce. I am running it on my laptop and it is working quite well and no glitches no hassles nothing to deal with. Install and forget. I am happy with it so far
Edit; uninstalling process is 100% better than the old ZA products and i guess better than kis

OK so it is version 8, that's good. Does the engine in ZAAV have the same features as KAV. Does the OS firewall in ZAAV replace one of the components found in KAV?

Its the version 8. Not 6. Its not KAV 2008/2009/2010 or whatever. It contains a mix of KAV 2009 and 2010 files (e.g. in ZA 9.1. the Prague Loader is version 9.0.0.720 and klif.sys is version 8.4.0.76). It is called "SDK engine" provided by Kaspersky to third party producers. Signature wise, is equivalent to the engine in the current (newly released?) KAV enterprise versions.
