Hi ,sorry about my stupid question.I read a lot of information about ESS which are still testing now. Does ESS have the same antivirus function as NOD32 v3?

Or the same as the difference between KIS and KAV?ESS is a suite inluding NOD32 v3(which is antivirus component) ,firewall ,spam, parental control,etc...?

    The second question:

I hear that some people say the number of known virus which Nod32 can detect is very small(about 9000)compared to Antivir(about 800000) or Kaspersky(about 300000)? If it is true ,I think I still doubt whether NOD32 can give me the full protection with the small amount of the known viruses database (even if i know Nod32 have a very good heuristic engine which can detect many unknown viruses...Nervous about that.

Can anyone help me to clarify those issues? Thanks a lot~

    Yes.

Correct, ESS = Suite whereas v3.0 = Antivirus only.

Don't listen to such people, they have not a clue what they are talking about... 9000 signature may have been added in a single year in the early days ;) :D

    Correct.

    Cheers :D

you said :"9000 signature may have been added in a single year in the early days "??

Really? you mean 9000 signatures is only for the added virus in one year??
Do you know how much sigatures NOD32 has totally??

    Regards,

The number of signatures doesn't mean anything. We could add 100,000 or more signatures automatically, but the quality would be questionable - the database size as well as memory consumption would grow significantly, and you might end up with less samples detected in total than if signatures covering more variants were picked up manually.
