    Hi

i have an asus laptop p4 , 4gb ram , ati hd about 500mb of ram

with vista , i tried to update with w8 , i tried the tool to know if it 's compatible and the tool told me yes

i tried to install online , offline via dvd and in virtual box

i got always this error on boot 0x0000005D

i guess it's the cpu not supported

Update the BIOS to the latest version available before installing Windows 8.

From what I have read the answer is no. Your CPU has to capable of reading a certain instruction (forget the name right now) and if it doesn't you can't install Windows 8. I checked it out because I, too, have an old computer with a Pentium 4 and it won't support Windows 8. However, from what I read you can install a beta version of Windows 8 because it didn't have this requirement.

    mantra,

Consumer Preview should install. Release Preview won't.

The Consumer Preview as well as the Developer Preview and the Release Preview of Windows 8 expired on January 15, 2013.

Using any of them now isn't legal anymore AFAIK.

Not even mentioning that these old builds obviously don't receive support and updates (such as critical fixes for vulnerabilities).
