deletion v disinfection

    Is it true that most malware can't be disinfected ,or should I be worried if my antivirus is not able to disinfect the eicar test

    The quick answer is no, you shouldn't be worried.

    Disinfection only applies if you have an infection that has merged with or embedded in, if you will, with an existing file. The eicar test file is basically a pure signature, there's nothing left if you "disinfect", hence deletion is the route. Same with a malware file that is pure, standalone malware. It was placed on your system as a discrete file, there isn't an existing file to disinfect. If the malware integrates with an existing executable or script, the malware code may be isolated from the parent file - in that instance, disinfection is possible.
