Auslogics has a VSS compatibility mode. Much faster than Defraggler. But Puran hasn't. I exclude "System Volume Information" folder from defragment for any imcompatibility issues in Puran.

Without Boot-Time Defragmentation, Locked/In-Use files by Windows cannot be properly defragmented.
Commercial software, like PerfectDisk, Diskeeper etc. offer Boot-Time Defragmentation.

When it comes to Defragmentation, Auslogics lacks the most important feature : Boot-Time Defragmentation.
Needless to comment on their marketing practices...

    @Mr. Pc;

Was commenting on the VSS compatibility. I have both Puran Pro and Auslogics freeware. When I want a faster alternative I use Auslogics. When a need arises for a more thorough defragmenting with Boot-Time defrag I use Puran Pro with PIOZR. I exclude my System Volume Information so all my restore points are intact. If not all are erased by Puran. Well the beta version of Defraggler will have boot time defrag so I guess Matthijs5nl will have a handfull trying out new stuff.

It's here in wilders' that I went to using Puran courtesy of belgamin:)

    Cheers!

    Keep in mind that
    BTW, Defraggler 2.0 was released.

Hmm..I could be wrong here since I haven't used the new versions of Puran, but does simply 'excluding' system volume information suggest VSS compatibility?

AFAIK, when the commercial automatic defraggers that support VSS encounter a VSS situation, they actually use special defrag algorithms that minimize file movement during defrag, which minimizes the creation of unnecessary new shadow copies/restore points, which in turn prevents the purging of the older ones.

thing i dont like about defraggler(and yes i have tried 2.0) is there is no other way to defrag except the normal or quick method and on a couple systems it always leaves gaps for me. also it does not defrag all the files on a boot time defrag but not many do

In its marketing literature Data Sheet Roxco claims that ONLY Perfect Disk "optimally places the MFT as recommended by Microsoft for improved performance." They further claim that doing this can improve perormance by as much as 10%.

From Shareware, PerfectDisk is my favorite, too.

Patent #7,672,982 has been awarded by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
for new file query technology that improves the speed of the disk
defragmentation process on Microsoft Windows platforms.

    Raxco
has incorporated the new file query technology
into its PerfectDisk 11 disk defragmentation solution.

    Isn't Raxco (PerfectDisk) the patent-holder?

PerfectDisk is the best. Simple and easy to use interface, junk and duplicate file cleaner, low price and good support.

I think Auslogics Disk Defrag is better because is faster than Defraggler (in fact, is really really fast!) and have optimization feature while Defraggler doesn´t.

If auslogics add boot time defrag then it will be best for me :thumb:

Auslogics Disk Defrag calls Optimization the following:
    -Free space consolidation,
    -System files smart placement,
    and
-Moving regular files from the MFT Reserved Zone to the rest of the disk space.

Defraggler offers -as extra Defrag options-
the following ones that ultimately result in Optimization:
-Moving large files (the user can define file size) to the end of drive
    and
-Do not move 'Large Files' during Defrag Freespace.

    I believe that
    > the Boot-Time defrag of System Files done by Defraggler
    is more effective than
    >the System Files Smart placement (=moving them in the beginning of the Disk) done by Auslogics Disk Defrag.

    >When the OS (Windows) keeps files Open (in-Use)/Locked,
software canNot done as much as
    >When things take place during Boot-Time.

The beta version of SmartDefrag (V2 build 1.21) seems still buggy to me, file exclusion based on size is not always taken into account.
