Back having a look a DW after some time away. Still kicks malware in the butt!

I can't say I noticed before the huge amount of 'I/O bytes other' it seems to use - over 100,000,000 in just under an hour of messing about. Even with no untrusted apps runiing it seems to continually rise at an alarming rate.

I/O read and write are low as is memory and CPU utilisation but what is the application doing to generate the 'other' bytes activity? I can't say I've ever noticed an app as hungry in that particular measure.

Anyone confirm on their set-up or can offer an explanation? Are there potential downsides of that much activity for that measure? Vista 32 Home Premium with only Avast free also running if that helps.

    Thanks

I/O Other = The number of input/output operations generated by the process that are neither a read nor a write, including file, network, and device I/Os. An example of this type of operation is a control function. I/O Other operations directed to CONSOLE (console input object) handles aren't counted.

Thanks, I sort of knew what it was just a little concerned its that high and the potential issues that might cause.

Could it be DW checking the running processes against its untrusted list?

    Thanks

Software is made up of different components. Each component needs to communicate with each other. These communications are I/O other. It does not bring any instability/issue.

Understood. Just seems a lot of activity for this type of app. Maybe Ilya can enlighten me if he pops over here. If not I may drop over to Gladiator or drop a support e-mail.

    Thanks for your input.

    Cheers

That IO input is about driver-application communication.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I now understand what's happening but not sure why it is constantly high. Anyway, its a great app and other I/O measures are low so balances out I suppose.

    Best Regards

I just installed DefenseWall Personal Firewall in a virtual machine along side a few security apps, and among them AVG AV Free 2011 and upon reboot, AVG license simply died, literally.

I must add that AVG and other apps, have been already installed for weeks, and clean snapshots; so, not a corrupted AVG installation.

Ilya see if you can reproduce it.

Well, I don't have AVG license, so, I can't reproduce. If you need my assistance, export DW's logs ("Events log"->"Export") into a file, zip and send me to the support e-mail.

The license is applied when the user installs the AVG AV free version.

OK, will check it out. Anyway. send me DW's logs exported.

    BTW, what's your Windows version?

Edited: installed 2011 version (free edition of) AVG 2011 and see no issues with licensing. So, send me DW's logs exported.

Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. You'll have to wait, because I need finishing some other stuff with the virtual machine.

Have you rebooted after installing DefenseWall? I could reproduce it again, yesterday, everytime I cleaned the snapshot and reinstalled DefenseWall and rebooted.
