In that perspective I believe OA its light on RAM and also CPU.
But it does generate around total 600.000 I/O read ans write (with or without HIPS)
Which a lot if u compare to LnS who only use around 20.000 I/O

I never see OA dedicated cleaner (uninstaller right?) But...
OA install wizard have an option if u don't have a trust worthy PC.
It will scan through all the component and report any suspicious entry
So you can uninstall/clean those entry

Ram usage : 40mb~50mb (seen through Process Explorer)

Does Online Armor Free provide more protection than Comodo? (not including antivirus) Or OA Free provides same protection as Comodo? Or Comodo provides more protection than OA Free? Or Comodo's equal is OA Premium?

The both excelent, many ppl here use them.
I like OA since it has run safer (setting app to low integrity)
Comodo in other hand has auto sandbox, but it doesn't fit my need
Both has HIPS, and recently tested agaisnt a single threat, link are on my previous post.
I must remind u that the a single test can't be a deciding factor, but it should help u to see from a clearer perspective

And finally u will be the one who decide which one is better. Try both you're self before decide :D

    wow that's slow

I didn't have the problem, but I did use a rather speedy laptop
did that happen on the second reboot? since the first reboot will take online armor sometimes to be activated.

or try to turn off "block all the traffic during the boot" on the firewall option
it might help a little ....

Are we talking about desktop or laptop and what OS are you running...

Personally I've used Windows for a little over 20 years and I've hardly ever used a software firewall...

Let's talk hardware firewalls if you really want some security and besides you have to connect to the internet anyway right? SO, a good router/firewall, along with the Windows firewall and a good bit of sense is all you really need and a nice AV/malware app helps too, hehe... :)

Run a VPN too, that really hides the IP and use a DNS. You want real security, there is more to it then just slapping a firewall on the box...

Comodo DNS should be just as good if not better...

i would like to see how you do that in OA free. ports? yes. IP? no. not per application at least.

looking for a free alternative to outpost (for some reason, the free version just asked me to register and won't accept the key i got emailed by agnitum), i read this and felt like i just had to chip in.

because i'm e.g. a bit amazed by the lack of talking about specifics... what does it matter whether a firewall is "light" when it is e.g. incapable of restricting the access of a program to selected IP addresses?

also, speaking about "many popups" - what kind? if you don't have the ability to create rules that is of course stupid. if you get popups for seemingly every other damn library a program loads, you might also want to have the option to switch that off (again - doesn't seem like that's possible in OA... had to go through around 6 popups when last.fm started for the first time...). but if on the other hand, a firewall automatically trusts tools even though you switched that behavior off in the options (like outpost does occasionally) - that's not really the kind of "few popups" that at least i would want.

so... for me, i guess i just have to try out random firewalls to see which one has the abilities that outpost does (and maybe even respects the option not to trust automatically). and i hope the experiences i've described here help others who stumble across this thread.

    [edit]
well... comodo setup gets stuck during kernel installation. so much for that.

free always have its draw back , but not all user need the same thing. so we can be sure there will be difference in priority for selecting firewall

u can try private firewall if u like, its very customizable (fast and strong too). maybe your need for ip filtering can be fulfilled there.

Comodo was kind of complicated for me but without D+ quiet and PC was still quick on an old XP desktop. PC tools no problems either, I guess I just tried it out. Both OA free and OA paid would not remember "things". This was often brought up on their forums too. Using PFR now plus my router.

The installer should disable whatever is needed when it detects an AV installed.

Well it does so according to the vendor and quite a couple of users who have tried it.

Install OP free rather than OSS free and you won't get AV anything.

Hands down Online Armor! Online Armor now includes an AE (anti-executable), file, and registry protection. Those features are only offered in the paid version though. The advanced firewall features are also not available in the OA free version. If you want to stay free then I suggest you just try all 3 of them out, and decide for yourself.

That thing has still been incompatible with W7 last time I checked, and pretty much doubt it will ever change.

Maybe with your setup. It ran quite nicely on my version of Win 7 and thousands of others.
