XP SP2 has an inbuilt Data Execution Prevention or "DEP" feature which I have turned off by editing the boot.ini by adding the "AlwaysOff" switch.

Just wondering if any of the regulars here have done the same, added some other switch or have some advice to leave it as is or get rid of it.

    Wikipedia link on DEP

I enable DEP for all programs. So far no problems, but if it stops a program I can just add it to the exclusion list.

Hardware DEP was able to stop recent 0-day ANI's vulnerability in Vista.
If someone has 64-bit and he has DEP disabled, he is a really strange man.
Software DEP is not that powerfull, but it is better to keep it ON, I do it now.

I always keep DEP enabled for everything. The only conflicts i've experienced are with certain games which xp automatically adds to the exclusion list.
