This would actually be a smart move by fake AV's to detect Eicar and Trojan simulator, Much easy to sucker people in.

When there are plenty of products out there with an impeccable record I can see no good reason to go with something with a shady past, yes they've supposedly gone straight now but who's to say they won't venture to the dark side in future? :doubt:

This rogue/real software don't support clean up of infections unless you buy this product which acts like a rogue.

But in second case I didn't find any suspicious behavior when I installed it. Also it doesn't have a context menu scan. Nor on full scan it found out like fake infections just to full the user.

Norton does not like it but it lets you sign in and open the site. I have installed this a few years ago and nothing went bad. But now i would not touch it anyway:thumbd: :thumbd:

They also host such one's from ParetoLogic as well as from Security Stronghold, which are both strongly suspect as worthless and quite possibly harmful apps.
Too many good and trustworthy security apps out there then to take chance with some of these.

True a major trust deficit exists with this product.

I am not sure everyone realizes the significant of this and other similar creations. These FakeAvs are now beginning to straddle the line between completely Fake, and somewhat Fake. I have seen a few where they detect a lot of fake threats but they also provide value by showing entries in the run key, services key etc and allow you to remove them (similar to AutoRuns). Those vendors could argue the Fake Threat detection as just being FPs. But such products are causing real issues for AV vendors because when they put out detection for such threats, there is an increasing number of so-called "vendor disputes", where the vendor claims that their product should not be detected because they are providing a legitimate service (albeit with lots of FPs).

This is a very disturbing trend.

It fails to support 9x/ME. In all seriousness, install this with SSM and Kerio 2.1.5 with trigger rules. You shall find that it's very "signal happy" in that it wants send data to many strange URLs.

some of the well respected av products only used to clean if you paid, the trial would only detect malware, not 100% sure but think Kaspersky used to run like that years ago!
