having a customized title bar seemed like a good thing when i saw it under the tools tab for misc ie settings
however after i set it, my popup killer can no longer detect ie windows that are open, so i cant add new pop ups to bannish
so, you would think go back in and take out the tag, right?
    nope, doesnt repair the problem,
when the tag was created a little "-" was added to the end of the ie title before the new tag
deleting the tag data does not remove the "-"
so the question is how to reset to a "-" free ie?
any help greatly appreciated - who doesnt hate popups?

    Hi ryoan,

Please go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/, and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log as a .txt file, and copy and paste its contents into your next post.

Most of what it lists will be harmless, so do not fix anything yet.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi ryoan,

That is not nice. It does not show up in HijackThis either. But I think I have found the cause for your popupblocker problems.

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/sp/ymsgr/*http://www.yahoo.com
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/sb/ymsgr/*http://www.yahoo.com/ext/search/search.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/su/ymsgr/*http://www.yahoo.com
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

    O2 - BHO: MyWay Search Assistant BHO - {04079851-5845-4dea-848C-3ECD647AA554} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\MYWAY\SRCHASTT\1.BIN\MYSRCHAS.DLL (file missing)

    O16 - DPF: {2B96D5CC-C5B5-49A5-A69D-CC0A30F9028C} (MiniBugTransporterX Class) - http://download.weatherbug.com/minibug/tricklers/AWS/MiniBugTransporter.cab?
    O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://imgfarm.com/images/nocache/funwebproducts/SmileyCentralInitialSetup1.0.0.5.cab

    O16 - DPF: {65E7DB1D-0101-4100-BD66-C5C78C917F93} - http://install.wildtangent.com/bgn/partners/aolim/install.cab

    Then reboot and delete:
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MYWAY <= the entire folder (if still present)

Then please copy the part in bold below to notepad and call it Titlefix.reg:

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
    "Window Title"="wIldErs"

Doubleclick the regfile you made and confirm to merge it with the registry.
You will have to close all IE windows and open a new one for the change to take effect.

    HTH,

    Pieter

i did as you suggested, and after adding the registry entry rebooted a second time to be on the safe side.
however when i open ie to my homepage that errant little "-" is still there in the titlebar EX. : "My Yahoo! - ", or "post reply - "
i have however discovered an error i made in posting the previous log from hijackthis. After reading through that page again. i realized i use msconfig to run only a few of the entries listed there.
so i have enabled all of those entries and rebooted and run hijackthis again
this is the new log with all the entries enabled and a restart:

    Hi ryoan,

The programs you normally have unchecked in msconfig should have no influence since they don't get started up. If you spot some you would like to get rid off forever, you can use HijackThis on them.

Can you check in the registry if you can find the value I tried to change with that regfile?
If you can find it and it has the "-" in it just delete the entire Window Title key and run my regfile again.

Always make a backup of your registry before editing it manually.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    hi thanks again,
here is the entry key You referred to as it looks now,
and one other i found, which may or may not be related

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
    Window Title "wIldErs"

    [HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\main]
    Window Title ""

this is how they stand now
    unfortuanately the problem still exists
im tempted to uninstall spyware blaster and see if that helps as it was the source of the original change
but i doubt that will be effective
and i was equally dubious about redoing the log file for hijackthis, but was turning over every stone as it were
you never know which one has the monster hiding under it
any other suggestions, im willing to try anything at this point
now finding a solution is more of a quest than the actual problem is annoying, though that continues to get under the skin
one might suggest an 'undo' button under the tab for misc ie settings
it was at the analogX site trouble shooting the POW! app that i realized that the tag addendum could be the problem, that and the fact that it began after i made that modification
what do You think i should try next?
i appreciate the help with this,
    thank you

I was wondering if you could try the following:

Start SpywareBlaster and click on the Tools button.
Go to the "Misc. IE Settings" tab and enter the following in the IE Window Text option box:

    Microsoft Internet Explorer

Then press the Apply button, and please let me know if you still encounter problems (after restarting your computer). :)

    Best regards and thanks,

    thanks but im afraid not
it simply treats that like any other tag i.e. -
My Yahoo! - Microsoft Internet Explorer
and POW! still cannot detect the window
    i already tried reinstalling IE6

does the alternate reg key i listed above have an impact on it?

    the one from:
    [HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\main]
    Window Title ""

    as opposed to:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
    Window Title "wIldErs"

    thank again for the assistance

Your suggestion led me to an idea.
after it didnt work without making the change to SpywareBlaster's "misc ie settings" tab i reran the file previously given "Titlefix.reg" and rebooted
i opened Internet Explorer and it still had the tag
    " - Microsoft Internet Explorer"
so this is what i did
i opened SpywareBlaster and went to the misc ie settings tab and replaced "Microsoft Internet Explorer" with "ducky"
then i opened regedit and did a find on "ducky"
the following are the keys i found:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\main]
    Window Title "ducky"

    [HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\main]
    Window Title "ducky"

Now, i am tempted to simply delete the "Window Title" for each in its entirety.
Can you think of any other option?
or have any objections to deleting the entries?

    thanks again

    That's very, very strange. o_O

Changing it back to its default (Microsoft Internet Explorer) should fix any problems related to the naming of the web browser windows. I'm really beginning to wonder if this is an entirely different issue altogether. :doubt:

I'll keep searching the Internet to see if I can find anyone reporting problems similar to yours with any pop-up blockers after making that customization.

    In regard to your question:
Deleting those two "Window Title" entries shouldn't be a problem - and if it doesn't fix anything you can always put them back. :)

    Best regards,

    alrighty then :D
    this is what worked
i opened regedit and found the first key i was interested in
    i backed up the registry
i opened add-remove programs, and uninstalled SpywareBlaster, then i manually deleted the SpywareBlaster folder i had installed it into
then i deleted the registry entry:
    [HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\main]
    Window Title "ducky"
oddly enough, or perhaps not, the second registry entry i planned to delete had vanished
since i had opened the regedit before uninstalling SpywareBlaster, it is possible both were already eliminated i suppose
however that may be, i closed regedit and rebooted
when i opened internet explorer it did indeed as You suggested have the : "My Yahoo - Microsoft Internet Explorer" title bar
however the regedit shows the two problematic entries gone
while the one previously changed remains:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
    "Window Title"="wIldErs"

and now POW! detects once again the windows
    woo hoo
    :-*
    thanks for the support
