Are the scores affected by HT or having dual CPUs?

Yeah you do, and with half my RAM

    Now I'm mad :D

ooooh wait I just remembered I had TS and ICQ running last time.. tried again and seems like that's most of the difference. My extra RAM just doesn't help in this app.

    Re:CryptoSuite Benchmark Results

Having DUAL-CPU's and HT would help somewhat.. but not directly in CryptoSuite's benchmark. Most cryptographic algorithms aren't exactly designed to be split up amongst different threads. However, having another CPU also means that all the Windows threads and other process threads (when they are idle), which eat up roughly 2-10% of a single CPU won't affect your score like a single CPU. So I would say dual-cpu (and possibly HT) would have 2-10% better scores than single cpu people.

Anyhow, here is my home-system benchmark. My system is an Athlon-3200+ on a NFORCE2 motherboard with 512MB of PC3200 ram. I only had 2 programs running (besides all the normal services, etc) whilst doing this benchmark. It would be great to compare an Intel P4 3.2ghz (which with AMD's rating is equal to my CPU) to see how close they are.

You guys are not going to believe this, but it is really possible!
A very old P166, winME on it, and ...... look for yourself i have CS running on it without any problem.
    CPU Frequency: 167MHz (=/- 5mhz0
    RAM Installed: 39MB
    Total time taken: 448972ms
Average time for each test: 64138ms
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    Your computer scored: 1113 CRYPTOMARKS!
    ----------------------------------------------------------------

I admit is is an old test system only so only a few programs were running on it at the time, it's just that other people with less fancy systems then you toppers dare to post their less fancy scores too!
It's not the system i work on though.
And now you know it even runs without a problem on these specs. So add your family on the old PC-private projects systems and chat away!

    Re:CryptoSuite Benchmark Results

With as much turned off as i could (except services and a few necessary programs, my cryptomarks were higher...yeaaaa lol

    -----------------[Benchmark finished]----------------
    CPU Frequency: 1595MHz (+/- 5mhz)
    RAM Installed: 511MB
    Total time taken: 43087ms
Average time for each test: 6155ms
    ------------------------------------------------
    Your computer scored: 11604 CRYPTOMARKS!

But then with the programs that i normally have running, turned back on, i lost a few cyrptomarks there.

    -----------------[Benchmark finished]---------------
    CPU Frequency: 1595MHz (+/- 5mhz)

    ------------------------------------------------
    Your computer scored: 11354 CRYPTOMARKS!

That doesn't look too bad. i don't know. LOL

Ok, I think I will keep the TOP most post in this thread to contain the highest and lowest scores so far. When someone posts a lower/higher score then I will update them. :)

Jooske, it is good to see see results from old machines like that. If I still had a 486 I would test that too. :)

Ok ok, put an old 486 together with 24 mb RAM and win98se on it for you. Hope to be able to post the benchmark results before tomorrow as this is really too hard for this combination. :)
Suppose it will give -00X cryptomarks.

could open of course only one CS instance and thus i could not try the chat with myself, not other functions bigger then just a very small file encryption, nice to try out such a thing.

    Re:CryptoSuite Benchmark Results

On a 486-50MHz (DX2) /24MB RAM it crashed when trying to get the CPU Speed (I guess the 486 does not support the instruction I use :) ) but I managed to add up the scores and calculate it anyhow.

Total Time Taken: 1469510ms (1468 seconds)
Average Time For Each Test: 209930ms (209 seconds)
    Your computer scored: 340 CRYPTOMARKS!

So I guess the benchmark will probably only work on Pentium+ machines. CryptoSuite however seems to work fine on a 486 with only 24MB of ram. A little slow but it still works. ;)

True, it comes through the benchmark tests, but crashes the program on the calculation for cryptomarks. Mine was a 66mhz SX if i remember well.
Did not test the encryption nor chat in action, i think you could make a coffee waiting for a reply with so little RAM.

Wow congrats. What sort of cooling do you have on that? :)

    So I guess a 3.2ghz does beat an AMD 3200+.. just :)

IMHO The CM's should be catagorised. Such as

    Laptop
    Intel - Normal
    Intel - Overclocked
    AMD - Normal
    AMD - Overclocked
Special - Other CPU's & or specialised rigs.

    Slowest.

    Re:CryptoSuite Benchmark Results

My system is a 3.0ghz with HT, and 1gig of high speed memory.

Jason this would be an interesting comparison with your machine. By itself, I don't think the HT makes much of a difference. I did watch it run, and the benchmark, basically ran almost entirely on one processor. (HT shows up as 2 processors.

1st test was just the benchmark, with nothing else.

    --------------[Benchmark finished]--------------
    CPU Frequency: 3028MHz (+/- 5mhz)
    RAM Installed: 1023MB
    Total time taken: 17013ms
Average time for each test: 2430ms
    ------------------------------------------------
    Your computer scored: 29389 CRYPTOMARKS!
    ------------------------------------------------

Then I open the DVD Player program, but didn't have it doing anything, and reran the benchmark.

    --------------[Benchmark finished]--------------
    CPU Frequency: 3028MHz (+/- 5mhz)
    RAM Installed: 1023MB
    Total time taken: 16832ms
Average time for each test: 2404ms
    ------------------------------------------------
    Your computer scored: 29705 CRYPTOMARKS!
    ------------------------------------------------

These results were within the margin of error. If I ran it 5 times, I would get different results within this range.

3rd Test. Ran Benchmark with a move playing. This is the one I'd like Jason to try.

    --------------[Benchmark finished]--------------
    CPU Frequency: 3028MHz (+/- 5mhz)
    RAM Installed: 1023MB
    Total time taken: 19654ms
Average time for each test: 2807ms
    ------------------------------------------------
    Your computer scored: 25440 CRYPTOMARKS!
    ------------------------------------------------

Watching them run in the performance monitor, the movie was in one thread, and the benchmark in the other.

Jason, I'd love to know your benchmark, with a move running in your DVD, if you have one. This could test the value of Intel HT.

    Pete

    Re:CryptoSuite Benchmark Results

Well I havn't tested DVD playback on my main machine (the one which scored 30000). I have tested with other things happening in the background, compiling, webpages, etc. The lowest I have seen my machine get is ~25000 CryptoMarks. The CryptoSuite benchmark thread has a higher than normal priority, hence it will usually take all the CPU it can grab.
