how would i do this with disk director 10 ? i have a single NTFS partition on an external hdd that i'd like to shrink, but when i do so, it shows the unallocated space at the end of the disk.

i am going to use the unallocated space to install linux.

Is there important data on the external drive? If so, I hope you have it backed up.

You should be able to resize the NTFS partition by grabbing the start (left side) of the partition and moving it towards the end. If you're using the Automatic Mode of DD, try the Manual Mode.

i will try it out and see....

i tried grabbing the color bar part of the partition and dragging it around but that didn't do anything.

also i'd like to know if disk director 10 or ti 11 posses the capability of removing the MBR of a specific physical disk ? i installed ubuntu on an external hdd, and for future references i'd like to be able to remove the mbr on that disk from within windows vista.

when installing ubuntu on this usb disk, i physically disconnected my internal hdd's and set my bios to boot from cd first and usb second. this spared my internal drive from any possible mbr corruption and issues with vista.
