I got this error msg by this time from months ,
until the sygate icon disappeared completely on the systray (smc.exe was still on task manager listed on processes ) .
So i upgraded my XP to SP2 , a fresh installation after a format , and still gettin this error shutting down my pc .
    My specifics :
Sygate pro 5 2710 build , last signature updated .
    Windows XP SP2
    SpywareBlaster Installed
Prefetch data cleaned and his value setted to 2 on registry as recommended .
    NO Antivirus in Background
    No Defrag program in Background
Or further spyware blockers than spywareblaster .
Also many useless xp services stopped and disabled as Blackviper site suggests .
If this problem is related to Spyware Blaster ,
can we get some clue about before to uninstall it ?
    :p I just wouldn't... :(

Not likely to be from spywareblaster, IMO. Spywareblaster sets up a bunch of registry entries for restricted internet sites and prohibited active-x controls and exits. That is, its protection is passive, like a hosts file. It does uninstall and reinstall without much fuss, if you want to try.

Easiest way to test is to just disable all protection in SpywareBlaster and then uninstall. Doubtful that that would be the trouble though...

Running Sygate Pro with SpywareBlaster on XP SP2 and no problems at all. Could you be more specific about the error you are getting when shutting down?
