No, I don't have any personal experience with GoBack. If it were me I would use Linux dd to wipe the first few hundred sectors. That should do it. Russell, do you need to preserve the data on the drive or can you afford to wipe it clean?

Doesn't TI 11 include a drive wiping utility (Acronis Drive Cleanser)? If you don't need the data on the old drive now that you have successfully cloned it to the new drive then just wipe the drive clean. That should remove all traces of GoBack. Afterwards, use Windows Disk Management to format the drive and you should be back in business.

    Russell,

Try this. Right click in the 93.37 GB rectangle, click Change Drive Letters and Paths, click Add, click the drop down arrow and choose D: (or anything), OK.

    Does that make a difference?

I cannot do that, that option is greyed out the only two that are not greyed out are "delete partition" and "help"
I appreciate all you suggestions and hope it just not something silly that I am not doing

If you guy don't have any other suggestions before I format the drive I might try uninstall Acronis, install Bo Back, see if I can access the F: drive, uninstall Go Back and reinstall Acronis (Don't really need Acronis as I just bought it to clone the C drive which it eventually did beautifully

You are doing well. One more idea before you move on. Could you download ptedit32.exe from..

    ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/tools/pq/utilities/PTEDIT32.zip

    Unzip and double click ptedit32.exe
    Change to Hard drive 2
Could you send a screen shot?

We are interested in the "Type". It's possible this could be changed to NTFS.

Great. It the Type box where it says 44, change it to 07. Click Save Changes and reboot. What has happened now?

Does the partition show as formatted in Disk Management? Does it have a drive letter? Can you assign a drive letter?

Disk is now assigned as F:
The option to reassign is now available
Unfortunatley it does not show formatted as NTFS
Although I can see it I don't seem to be able to access it

    Damn. So close.

Change the partition type back to 44 and reboot. Try your method. Good luck.

GoBack must change something in the partition boot record.

Just wanted to get back to you guys.
    I uninstalled Acronis
Tried to reinstall goback, ogt an error about there being residual go back files on F was asked to reboot which I did and then I tried and successfully reinstalled goback.

I now have access to both the C anf F drives so everything appears in order.
Do not want to uninstall go back till I confirm I have all my wifes pictures on F backed up

Curiously I looked at the type of drive for F and it now shows as 07 and no longer 44 (I did change it back to 44 earlier based on your suggestions). Pasted a copy

Again thanks for all the time you spent helping me

    Regards
    Russell

    Russell,

It's interesting. Thanks for the updates. So you can see all files on the second HD now?

That's correct, everything is working perfectly, the newly cloned C drive and the original F drive

I wouldn't use GoBack if you're going to use True Image. They tend not to play nice when you least expect it.

    Hi Russell,

I just read the thread of your struggle of getting your new drive cloned with Acronis TrueImage and recovering the data on the original "C" drive with Goback. While I understand that everything is working fine now - I recommend that for the future if ever need to recover data from a HD that you use an app that is specifically designed for data / partition recovery (such as Easeus Data Recovery Wizard, Recover My Files, or Power Data Recovery).

I use Easeus Data Recovery Wizard - this is capable of recovering individual files, partitions, or the contents of an entire drive from any HD even if it has been formatted and the partitions deleted (as long as it has not been erased using some type of multi-pass data destruction program).

    just my two cents...
    cheers
